Black Lives Matter All the Time: A PhotoVoice Virtual Exhibit
An exhibit focused on the experiences of Black students at SDSU & WSU with the goal of creating healthier environments for Black students.
Amid the increasingly visible racial tension in the US, a group of Black students from Washington State University and San Diego State University began documenting our day-to-day psychological, social, and physical experiences and challenges navigating predominately white spaces through photography. We engaged in discussion around the themes of identity, community, oppression, wellness, and resistance; the virtual exhibit consists of the curated photographs and resulting discussion. In inviting you to this exhibit, we offer our unique perspectives, with the hope of increasing awareness of the diverse and multiple experiences and identities that exist within the Black community. Through the sharing of our personal narratives and conversations that center Black college students in predominantly white institutions, we hope to identify and create recommendations to aid in the transformation of institutions of higher education into environments in which Black students can thrive. This virtual exhibit originally was hosted on November 12, 2020.
